A great display of rugby yesterday with Bruff running out 21-17 against the visitors.   It was a fine afternoon with a small but freezing breeze that is expected in mid November but condition’s were great for Rugby. There was a great atmosphere with all spectators who enjoyed the game no matter where they hailed from.

Brian Cahill sloted a penalty for a scrum being brought down and the points were levelled dew to the same infringement . Bruff 3-3. A Lovely back-line move produced a try for Tom O Callaghan unfortunately the  conversion went off right of post. First half finished Bruff 8-3.

On return it did not take long for Bruff to  re-enact their dominance. A one handed pass from Davy Horan to Maurice o Connell for a try then Converted by Brian Cahill was a  piece of brilliance.

Shortly after a penalty was  moved ten for dissent. Brian Cahill converts Bruff 18-3. The Ulster men deciding the game had gone on too long without them scoring got past the line and slotted the conversion. Bruff 18-10.

A penalty for Bruff not releasing. Brian Cahill converts. Bruff 21-10.  In the last ten minutes the heavens opened and everyone squashed into the stand. The weather had opposite effects for each team with a try for Belfast, with Scholes the kicker converting for losing bonus 21-17 at the end.

Truly a great performance the captain showing how its done with new up and comers displaying fantastic rugby. A hard day for Harlequins but stayed fighting and won a bonus point. Bruff now seventh 5 points off quins at 6th.  Ballynahinch next who are on top. We had 1 a piece last year with both game being tight. No doubt it will be entertaining.

Another away fixture last week with a disappointing result. An early yellow card, A penalty and a converted Try were the highlights of the Bruff game in Athlone on Friday evening. Buccaneers finished with 32 points and a B.p.

The game was played under lights with rain milling down constantly.Bruff with a deeply depleted team since winning the bateman 2 years ago, travelled another long journey to our closest rival’s in the league. Early penalty’s for both sides saw Brian Cahill level the game 3-3 but Buccaneers fly-half dictated the game with great line kicking despite the slippery conditions. Growing territory led to an infringement on Bruff’s part and Mike Carroll got a yellow card on 32 min’s. Buc’s slotted the 3 points with a converted try shortly after. 13-3 to Buccaneers at half time.

Bruff battled hard early in the 2nd half but another try came in on 58mins not converted with another disallowed 10min’s after. Bruff’s try came at  75 min’s by flanker Mike Carroll and converted by his brother Brian who replaced Brian Cahill at 39min’s due to injury.18-10 to Buc’s. A double blow for Bruff when the home team went in for an intercept try and another from the restart  at 79min’s. The team truly out on there feet when the whistle blew showing nothing but 100%  commitment to the very end.

Dungannon 1 point ahead, Harlequins at home half 2 on Saturday,Bruff 3rd from bottom. As always Kilballyowen is an exciting venue for match’s,craic and banter so please come and support.

We’ll see you there.
