It must be described as  battling performance in very difficult conditions after a long trek to County Derry.  Great Credit must be given to the players and indeed with a little more luck we could have left with all 4 points.  After a very positive start, a harsh yellow card for Killian Ansboro on 16 mins saw Rainey take a 3 -0 shortly afterwards. Declan Bannon replied for us leaving half time score at 3 points each. Colm O Sullivan was very unlucky not to touch down during the first half and when Declan Bannon slotted a second penalty early in the second half a surprise looked on the cards. However Raineys second rower Sheils got over the line for a try mid way through second half  which was converted by their fullback O’Connor. Once again Bruff came back a a 3rd Bannon penalty left the bare minimum between the teams.  The last 10 mins were played in the Bruff 22 and some resolute defending saw us defend the losing bonus point. Final Score Rainey 10 Bruff 9.  A big thank you to our hosts who were as ever very hospitable and gracious. Next match for our seniors is Old Wesley away on the 23rd Nov.

The James Keating memorial mini rugby blitz occurred on Bank Holiday Monday, 28th October. A total of 21 teams participated in what was a great day. A good crowd was present throughout the day and provided good support to all the teams that played. The teams that participated included three teams from Bruff, the Under 12 team, the Under 11 team and a combination of Under 12’s and Under 11’s. The other teams that participated were the following, Old Crescent, Shannon, Garryowen, Young Munster, Richmond, Clanwilliam, Cashel, Kilfeacle, Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale, Fethard, Ballina/Killaloe, Tralee, Ennis and UL Boh’s.

The three Bruff teams that played in the tournament all played very well and did themselves proud on the day. The Bruff Under 12 team won their group and got a bye through to the semi-final of the cup. The semi-final of the cup drew the Bruff Under 12 team against Old Crescent. The other semi-final drew Ennis against Tralee. In the semi-final things didn’t go Bruff’s way and at half time the score was 0 – 2 to Old Crescent. At the final whistle, the Bruff Under 12 team lost 0 – 4 to a strong Old Crescent team in what was an entertaining match. Ennis beat Tralee in the second semi-final 1 – 0 to meet Old Crescent in the final of the cup.

In the final Old Crescent went on to beat Ennis 5 – 0 to retain the cup again for a second year in a row. The tournament trophy and medals were presented to Old Crescent by Pat Dunne, Club President.

Thanks go to the ladies committee who provided hot drinks, soup and sandwiches on the day. Thanks also to those who lined the pitches and to the referees. Thanks also to Pat Gennery, Ken Daly and Tony Clifford who helped co-ordinate the group stage games through to the final.

Finally, thanks to the Keating family who provided a lovely meal at the end of the evening to conclude the day.
