Seniors Vs Kanturk
The 1st Xv returned to winning ways on Saturday when they secured a 36.8 away win over Kanturk in the UBL. Bruff played with the wind in the opening half and were good value for a 14.8 lead going into the break. The opening score came after 12 minutes when a dominant Bruff scrum was rewarded with a penalty try which Tony Cahill converted. Bruff’s second try came after 23 minutes when Kanturk were penalised again at the scrum with Bruff electing to kick to the corner. Bruff won a clean line-out and drove the maul just short of the Kanturk line. Tony Cahill broke from the base of the maul and darted over from short range and also added the conversion to make it 14.0.
Kanturk enjoyed a purple patch just before half time and went in for a try on 30 minutes and kicked a penalty on the stroke of half time.
Bruff added try number 3 five minutes into the second half. Again the Bruff scrum proved to be a solid platform to work from and Mike Cooke was on hand to touch down from short range after Tony Cahill’s initial break from the back of the set piece. Brian Cahill who was introduced at half time converted to make it 21.8 and Bruff were now in the hunt for the Bonus point.
Try number 4 and the bonus point came 55 minutes in. The Bruff backs made great head way down the right wing before showing some great hands to move it back to the left. Mike Cooke was on hand to dot it down for his second try of the afternoon and Bruff went into a commanding 26.8 lead. Bruff added to two more trys on 70 and 78 minutes with Jack O grady and John Clery finishing off after some good interplay from back and forwards.
