Our Senior team continue to look for their first win of the season after a luckless 7-3 loss to Sundays Well in Kilballyowen on Saturday.
The afternoon started with a minutes applause in memory of the late Alfie Laffan before kickoff and despite bossing the opposition for most of the match, we could not find a way to cross the white line and suffered because of it. Playing against a significant breeze in the first half, Bruff started with great intent and spent most of the first period in the Sundays Well half of the pitch. 25 mins into the first half Sundays Well were reduced to 14 players when their hooker was sin binned for infringing at the breakdown. 5 minutes later he was joined by his loose head prop but despite playing against 13 men we could not make it count. Chances of penalty kicks at goal were ignored in order to gain ground and score a try but this proved in vain. Both teams went in 0-0 at half time.
Declan Bannon scored Bruff’s only points early in the second half when converting a penalty attempt in front of the posts. A second penalty attempt 10 minutes later was missed and this in the end proved costly. Sundays Well scored a break away try from their first centre Cyprian Jouve which was converted by outhalf Shane O’ Riordan. This was to be the last score of the game and despite Bruff spending most of the last 10 minutes inside the Well 22 and getting successive penalties in the last minute our efforts were unsuccessful. Final Score Bruff 3 Sundays Well 7.
Next up is the visit of Middleton in the senior Cup on Saturday 18th Oct.
