Bruff ended their losing streak this afternoon at Kilballyowen when they won against Belfast Harlequins with a final scoreline of 10 – 6.
Bruff scored 2 tries to see off a persistent Belfast Harlequins side. Even though dominating the match for long periods Bruff could never shake off Harlequins due to great defence from the away side as well as missed chances from the home side.
Bruff opened the scoring after 22 mins with a great team try. The Bruff pack took the ball through many phases, before good hands sent Paul O’Brien free on the wing. Still left with a lot to do, he finished well.
Bruff missed the conversion to leave the score 5-0. Belfast Harlequins responded with 2 penalties to leave the score 6-5 at half time. In that time Bruff missed 3 kicks at goal.
Bruff completely dominated the 2nd half and while it took 20 minutes to get the next score it was well deserved with a good scrum and good hands from Mikey Carroll and Eoghan Maher sending Andrew Cashman over in the corner. The conversion was missed to leave the score 10-6. Bruff continued to dominate, however didn’t put any more scores on the board. Belfast Harlequins came back for one last attack and were inches away from a try when the winger was penalised for a double movement as he placed the ball over the line. Bruff cleared their lines and celebrated a well deserved win.
