McInerney Cup Final 2012
The thirds were beaten 35-12 by Thomand in the final of the McInerney Cup on Saturday in Annocothy. Bruff went in as underdogs facing a Thomand team yet to be beaten this season in 9 outings.
Four first half penalties by Mark O’Connell kept Bruff in touch and they trailed by just three points, 15-12, at the break. A Glen O’Callaghan try for Thomond set the pattern of the game with further tries credited to Anthony Hartery, Christian Meehan, Pat Deedigan and a terrific try at the death from former Bruff player Jonathon Forde ensuring that Thomand came out victorious.
This was Bruff’s forth final in a row having won the competition on the previous two attempts. Only 5 of last year’s panel started the game this weekend. From lasts years team 4 have retired, 7 have moved on to the senior squad, 2 have emigrated and 3 were out injured.

Gleason League Bruff v Garryowen
The 3rds recovered from a 6-16 deficit midway through the second half to finish 17-16 winners in a thriller in Kilballyowen. A try by JP Baggott and three penalties and a conversion by Kevin McEvoy for Garryowen put them in a winning position but Bruff replied in the final quarter with a Mark O’Connell try. Owen Quinn was the hero, kicking the winning penalty in injury time to add to his three earlier penalties.

Last Round of gleeson league
The 3rd’s went into the weekend with a slim chance of making the knock out stages of the Gleeson league, Needing a win and hoping for two other games to go their way.
Unfortunately this didn’t pan out but thankfully they did get the win beating Old Crescent 38-7 at home in Kilballyowen.
Bruff opened the scoring early in the first half and raced into a 17-0 lead with trys from Alan Kilcoyne, Mossie O Donnell and a superb individual try from Charlie Fitzgerald, Ritchie McAuliffe adding a Conversion. Crescent hit back to make it 17-7 before John O Sullivan used his pace scoring a try from inside the Bruff half to leave the score 24-7 at half time.
Crescent were on the attack from early on in the second half but could not break down the Bruff defence. Alan Kilcoyne added his second try midway through the second half with Mike McCarthy scoring a sixth Bruff try before the final whistle. Ritchie McAuliffe kicked 4 conversions in total bringing his total to 55 points so far for the season.
Saturday’s game was the last game of the league. The Semi-final of the McInerney cup is up next for the lads with an away Trip to St. Senans in Shannon next Saturday.
