It was a tough weekend on the field for Bruff teams as both our U16 and U20 suffered defeat. On saturday, Our 20’s travelled to Terenure knowing they faced an uphill battle and so it proved , despite 2 yellow cards in the 1st half we went in only trailing 8-0 at half time. However the 1st half efforts caught up with us in the second half and we fell to a 32-7 defeat, the scoreline not reflecting the effort put in by the team. Sunday saw the 16’s make the 130 mile round trip to Kilrush for the semi final of the 16’s cup, with only 1 defeat this season we were confident and this proved our undoing. A flat performance saw us trail 6-0 at half time. A brilliant try by Mike O Grady running 60 yards, evading 4 tackles to run under the posts saw us lead 7-6 early in the second half. However back came Kilrush with their scrum half scurrying over for a try to make it 11-7. Once again we came back down the pitch and after several mauls, prop Jack Fitz touched down in the corner to make it 12-11. This wasnt to be the last action, a questionable penalty against us at scrum time on our own 22, a quick tap penalty and once again Kilrush scrum half broke the tackles to score and make it 16-12, with 2 minutes to play. A fantastic run on the wing by Dean O’Shea saw him nearly get in at the corner and when the resulting lineout was won by Tadgh O’Dwyer we sensed a late score however Kilrush held their line to record a deserved 16-12 victory. We now wait for the Open Cup against Old Crescent.

The 2nd half got under way with fierce intensity & just 3 mins in the clock was stopped for almost ten mins as a Young Munster player took a bad knock in a collision .The break in play changed the mood of the game and momentum was with Young Munster & they got in with a try narrowing the gap to 16-11 within mins of the restart.A penalty for Bruff soon followed & the lads settled back to business and were excellent in defence denying munsters on several occasions of scoring .Bruff never taking the foot off the gas drove munsters back time after time and a final penalty to bruff in what seemed like a never ending half with over 15 mins injury time played gave Bruff a 22 -11 victory & the title of Munster champions which they have worked so hard for since last sept .
