UBL Division 2C Kanturk v Bruff,
The seniors recorded their fourth bonus point win of the season with a 24-12 win away to Kanturk on Saturday. The game was played in very tough conditions with Bruff playing into a stiff headwind in the opening 40.
Bruff managed the conditions well and went into the half-time break 7-5 up thanks to an opening half try from Deccie Bannon which he converted himself. The opportunity was created when Paddy Clery (our own version of CJ Stander) made a clean line break and linked well to put Bannon in the clear to touch down under the posts. As you’d expect with the wind to their back Kanturk had a lot of territory in the first half but they only managed one try for their endeavours. This was mainly due to solid Bruff defence and some brave last ditch tackling. When Bruff did have the ball they didn’t kick it away aimlessly but played intelligent rugby holding onto it for long periods and looking for safe plays to make good clearances.
The second half started brightly for Bruff and try number two came with the first attack of the half. The Bruff pack won the ball on the right hand side and recycled quickly to release the back line. Sean Darcy supplied the finish to a pre-rehearsed move with Deccie Bannon kicking the conversion from straight in front of the posts. Try number tree came shortly before the 50 minute mark with wing forward Mikey Carroll going over from short range after a period of pressure from the Bruff pack to make it 19-5.
The bonus point try came in the left corner on 60 minutes. Again the Bruff pack provided quick ruck ball to release the backline with Barry Enright going in by the corner flag to secure the four try bonus point. Kanturk managed a try on 75 minutes but it was Bruff who ran out winners by 24 points to 12.
