The lads put in a great first half performance to run up a 19-0 lead with a strongish breeze at their back at halftime on Saturday last. Máirtín was back to his formidable self and had one of his best displays for some years with strong running and managing to shrug off some fairly serious “Hits”. People are coming around to the idea that the rugby landscape has improved dramatically in the county this season so far.

In fairness to Old Crescent it must be said that they didn’t go down without a fight and a serious second half kick after a fire and brimstone dressing down at the interval meant that the lads didn’t quite have it all to themselves in the early part of the second half. Bruff finished very strongly though and were unlucky not to come away with another try in the final quarter when Eoin Cahill knocked on just between the posts during a very sustained period of Bruff Pressure.Former Bruffian, Cormac Hayes started for Crescent and Simon Malone came on in the second half for them.

Good result, which means we keep our unbeaten record against the Crescent Senior XV, Small and young though it may be.

Apologies, Again I was away after the match and will not be able to get photos up till tomorrow sometime, I still haven’t put up photos from last weeks game or the weeks before.

Depending on how the Old Crescent team is picked before kickoff next Saturday we could have a situation where two thirds of the Old Crescent front row would be from last years Bruff squad. In any case good luck to the Calf and Simon in the future (Not next w’end obviously). Nothing like a hint of spice to give an edge to a game…….

It’s interesting that we haven’t met Old Crescent first XV competitively since we became a senior club (I am willing to be corrected on this if anyone knows differently, I can’t remember any fixture) but as a junior club we had a fairly good record against them and we hadn’t lost against their senior team in the previous two or three years prior to AIL status in Senior Cup outings etc. I remember one of our long time players (GARDA AT THAT) running in a couple of tries against them one evening in Kilballyowen, a game which got us to a Senior Cup Semi-final place (While a Junior club) and a drubbing by Shannon’s full squad incl. Lacy, Galway & Co.

Anyone roll it on boys, 2nd last weekend before the AIB League starts away to Derry (27th Oct.) , I’m away to spend half an hour updating the fixtures/results list…
