Senior Match Report – Mike Rea.
Saturday saw us entertain Sundays Well in the last game in 2021. Having to play 7 matches in 8 weeks has taken a bit of a toll on our squad but huge credit to all involved for the magnificent effort they have put in. We suffered a big blow when Sean Hartigan picked up a knock in the warm up which saw Kevin Treacy coming in at 7. Bruff got off to a dream start when they showed their intent with eir intent a smashing try from Mark Fitz converted by Paul Collins. Further try’s from Kevin Treacy and Ross o Brien-May saw us go 17-0 up. But the Well hit back with 2 tries of their own to make it 17-14. But from the kick off after the Well’s 2nd try Bruff once again showed their intent on moving the ball and another excellent finish by Davy o Grady to make it 24-14 at halftime. The 2nd half turned out to be a real battle with the Well throwing everything at us and plus the fact that the referee decided to give us some early Xmas card’s, we showed magnificent discipline in defense.
Our journeys into their half became less but after winning a penalty outside the 22 Paul Collins slotted it over to take it to 27-14. The Well continued to batter us but time nearly up we finished off with a breakaway try after Jack o Grady made a superb break to release Sean Darcy Paul Collins added the extras to make it 34-14. That was the last play and we gathered our 2nd 5 pointer of the season. We would like to wish Darragh o Connell a speedy recovery from injury which we seem to be getting more of our fair share this season. And a huge thanks to all our supporters it means so much to lads.
